Review of Love Like The Movies by Victoria Van Tiem

Kenzi Shaw knows the plot of her life down to the last line – the career she’s building as an up-and-coming marketing exec, the gorgeous fiancé (Bradley) she’ll marry in a fairytale wedding, the children they’ll raise in her dream home. But when heart-breaking ex Shane comes back into her life, life starts going off the script…

Shane tries to win Kenzi over by re-enacting all the rom-com movies they used to watch together – Sleepless in Seattle, Bridget Jones’s Diary, Pretty Woman and Dirty Dancing to name a few. He’s just a guy, standing in front of a girl, asking her to trust him again. But has he really changed? Not only is her head in a spin over Shane, but now her job is on the line. And with her perfect sister-in-law showing up every tiny thing Kenzi does wrong, she feels like she’s permanently in the corner.

Should she risk her sensible life for the chance of a Happy Ever After? One thing’s certain, when Shane meets Kenzi (again), she’s suddenly not so sure who her leading man is…

Thank you to Pan Macmillan for kindly sending me a review copy. I’m part of the Blog Tour and today is my stop! This is Victoria’s debut novel and I was really excited to read it as all the films involved, I loved (but failed to watch them all…)

Kenzi Shaw is newly engaged, happy, slightly bitchy and forever trying to please her Mum. I hoped that Kenzi would realise that she needs to make herself happy before anyone else and soon enough, it clicks. She’s 30 and stressing about not having any children… I wanted to shake her something silly as there are plenty of Mum’s in the world who are 30-40 and having children. I felt like she was rushing at life, rather than enjoying it.

The drama with her ex-boyfriend Shane, happens very quickly. Victoria wastes no time in getting into the action and before I knew it, I was half way through the book. It’s ideal to read during a Summer’s day while you’re sunbathing. I thought the first half of the book was dramatic but just wait until the ending – OH WOW. I did not see that coming – #slimeball

It’s dramatic, sweet and filled with romance for those who love all things love. You won’t stop saying ‘aww.’
